Biography
John Morley III is a Republican politician representing the Orleans District in the Vermont Senate since 2025. A lifelong resident of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, born in Newport, he was appointed to the Senate seat by Governor Phil Scott in December 2025 to replace Sam Douglass following a resignation scandal. Morley serves as Village Manager and elected Trustee for the Village of Orleans since 1993, works as a first-class lineman, and holds positions on the Board of Directors for the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority . Notable past roles include President of the Northeastern Vermont Development Association and service on boards like the Northeast Public Power Association and Orleans/Essex VNA and Hospice.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Lake Region Union High School and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Vermont in 1993.
- Political Experience: Served three terms in the Vermont House of Representatives for the Orleans-Caledonia-1 District, sitting on the Appropriations, Commerce, and Health Committees. Currently serves as Clerk on the Senate Committees on Government Operations and Health and Welfare.
