About

John Moolenaar is a Republican U.S. Representative for Michigan's 2nd Congressional District, serving since 2015. Born on May 8, 1961, in Midland, Michigan, he is married to Amy and is the proud parent of six children. As Michigan’s only member of the House Committee on Appropriations, he focuses on fiscal responsibility, serving on subcommittees covering agriculture, rural development, labor, health, education, and national security. He chairs the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party *, leading efforts to counter CCP economic and security threats. Notable achievements include legislation to improve VA accountability for veterans, expand rural internet access, enhance senior care, support Michigan farmers, and block taxpayer funds to adversaries. He also co-chairs the *School Choice Caucus with Sen. Tim Scott , advocating for parental rights and school choice.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hope College; Master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.
  • Professional Experience: Began career as a chemist, later worked in business development and as a charter school administrator.
  • Political Experience: Served in the Michigan House of Representatives and Michigan State Senate ; elected to U.S. House in 2014 for the 2nd District .
