Biography
John Mikulin
John Mikulin is a Republican member of the New York State Assembly representing the 17th district, which encompasses portions of the towns of Hempstead and Oyster Bay in Nassau County on Long Island. Born on April 7, 1988, Mikulin was first elected in a special election on April 24, 2018, defeating Democrat Matthew W. Malin with 63% of the vote in this safely Republican district. He has since been reelected to full terms.
Mikulin resides in Bethpage in the Town of Hempstead with his wife, Corinne. He is an active parishioner at St. James Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Levittown Property Association.
Education
Mikulin holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Government. He also earned a Juris Doctor degree from Touro Law Center.
Political Experience
Prior to his election to the New York State Assembly, Mikulin served as president of the Island Trees Library Board and as deputy town attorney in the Town of Hempstead.
As an assemblyman, Mikulin has focused on lowering taxes, reducing outmigration, combating New York's opioid crisis, and making the state more business-friendly. He works to reform New York's economic development programs and eliminate wasteful spending. Additionally, Mikulin supports local control of education and opposes the implementation of New York State Common Core Learning Standards.
