Biography
John-Michael Parker is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing the 101st District, which includes the towns of Madison and Durham. A Madison native born in the town, he was first elected in November 2020 after a narrow loss in 2018, assumed office on January 6, 2021, won re-election in 2022 and 2024, and is now in his third term. He serves as Chair of the Environment Committee, Vice Chair of the Public Health Committee, and a member of the Education Committee, with prior roles on those committees. Notable achievements include leading the unanimous passage of HB 5430 on opioid policies, securing over $5 million in state funding for district projects like the Academy Community Center and Durham Public Library, co-founding the bipartisan Connecticut Future Caucus, and being named the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters' 2025 Environmental Champion. He also serves as Assistant Majority Leader since 2023 and leads the Arts, Culture, and Tourism Caucus.
Education and Political Experience
Parker graduated from Daniel Hand High School in Madison in 2006 and earned a bachelor's degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from Yale University in 2010. His professional background includes working as a science teacher at the Dalton School in Manhattan, national dream director and VP for development at The Future Project nonprofit in New York City, and since 2019, executive director of Arts for Learning Connecticut. He has experience as an artist and professional musician, directing music groups at his alma mater, and serving on local boards including Madison Youth & Family Services and Women & Family Life Center. Married to expressive arts therapist Joyce Gendler, he lives in Madison.
