Biography
John McGuire is a Republican representing Virginia's 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving his first term in the 119th Congress. Born and raised in Central Virginia , he spent early childhood in foster care, attending nine elementary schools, before his grandparents raised him until high school graduation in 1988. He served as a U.S. Navy SEAL from 1988 to 1998, deploying worldwide, and founded Sea Air and Land Team Physical Training, Inc. in 1998. In 2006, he overcame a severe injury that initially left him unable to walk. A Baptist and husband to Tracy, they have raised five children and live in Goochland, VA. Notable state achievements include passing legislation for school nurses to administer naloxone against the opioid crisis and reducing taxes on veterans' retirement pay. In Congress, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, focusing on lowering family costs, national defense, shrinking federal government, and supporting infrastructure and agriculture.
