Biography
John L. Lowery is a Republican representing North Carolina House District 47 . A lifelong resident of Robeson County and proud Lumbee Tribe member, he was appointed to the seat on October 13, 2025, following his brother Jarrod Lowery's resignation. He currently serves as the seventh Chairman of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina , leading initiatives in housing, education, agriculture, cultural preservation, economic development, and infrastructure. In the General Assembly, he collaborates with Senator Danny Britt and House Majority Leader Brenden Jones on priorities like public schools, law enforcement, roads, broadband, and local infrastructure.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke; Master's in Teaching from UNC Pembroke; Master of Public Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.
- Political Experience:
- Civics teacher in Robeson County Public Schools.
- Member of the Lumbee Tribal Council.
- Leadership roles with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and N.C. Department of Commerce .
