Representative John LaHood – District 175, Georgia
John LaHood is an American politician and business leader from Georgia. A Republican, he serves as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from District 175, which covers Brooks County and portions of Lowndes and Thomas counties in South Georgia. He resides in Brooks County and is known for his advocacy on behalf of senior citizens, rural communities, and conservative policy priorities.
LaHood is also an entrepreneur and registered nurse who has built a career in senior living and healthcare services. As President and CEO of Fellowship Senior Living, Inc., he oversees several senior living communities in Georgia and Florida, providing housing and care for older adults and employing hundreds of people. His background in healthcare and senior services has informed his legislative work, particularly on issues affecting older Georgians.
Education and Professional Background
LaHood holds a degree from Valdosta State University and is a licensed Registered Nurse with multiple additional certifications related to senior care and healthcare management. He began his full-time career in senior living in 1997 and has served as a third‑generation owner and operator of assisted living and memory care communities. His company has received recognition for best practices in personal care homes and assisted living communities from state agencies and professional associations.
Political Experience
John LaHood was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in a special election held in 2018 to represent District 175. Since then, he has been re-elected and has developed a reputation as a strong advocate for conservative values, including lower taxes, Second Amendment rights, and protections for the unborn. He is also credited with sponsoring and championing legislation that supports older adults, such as measures aimed at improving medication access and the quality of care in senior facilities.
In the legislature, LaHood serves or has served on multiple committees, including the Human Relations & Aging Committee, where he has held leadership roles such as Secretary and later Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation. He also participates in committees related to Game, Fish & Parks; Governmental Affairs; Public & Community Health; and Technology and Infrastructure Innovation.
LaHood has been recognized by the Georgia Municipal Association with the Champion of Georgia Cities Award for his work advancing the interests of Georgia’s municipalities.
