About

John F. Keenan is a Democratic State Senator representing the Norfolk and Plymouth District in the Massachusetts Senate, which includes Quincy, Abington, Braintree, Hanover, Holbrook, and Rockland. First elected in 2010, he has served continuously since 2011. Notable achievements include chairing key committees such as Joint Committee on Public Health, Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery, Joint Committee on Housing, and Senate Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets; he currently serves as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Election Laws and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government. A Quincy resident born in Quincy, he is Catholic, married to Jeanne with three sons, and has been involved in community service including coaching youth basketball.

  • Education: BA in Government, Harvard University ; JD, Suffolk University Law School ; MPA in Public Administration, Harvard Kennedy School .
  • Early Career: Worked as a litigator, public defender, and attorney combating insurance fraud; served as Executive Secretary managing Quincy's budget and departments; Executive Director of Norfolk County Retirement System .
  • Political Experience: Quincy City Councilor , including Finance Committee Chair; Massachusetts State Senator, Norfolk and Plymouth District ; extensive committee roles in health, housing, judiciary, transportation, and Ways and Means.
