Biography
Representative John C. Inglis III
John C. Inglis III is a Democratic representative in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, serving the 38th Legislative District since 2024. He is a lifetime resident of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, born in November 1986.
The son of a Navy veteran father who was a vocational-technical teacher and a mother who worked in administration, Inglis grew up in West Mifflin and has maintained deep roots in his community throughout his life.
Education
Inglis graduated from West Mifflin Area High School before pursuing higher education. He earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Duquesne University and a master's degree in School Counseling from Westminster College.
Political Experience
Before his election to the state house, Inglis worked for 15 years as a teacher and school counselor for the West Mifflin Area School District, where he was an active member of the American Federation of Teachers.
He first entered electoral politics in 2017, when he won a seat on the West Mifflin Borough Council, where he served twice and focused on economic development, expanding free recreation programs, maintaining public services, and keeping taxes low. He also prioritized advocacy for first responders, including police, fire departments, and emergency medical services.
In 2023, Inglis ran for the Democratic nomination for the state house seat after incumbent Nick Pisciottano announced he would not seek re-election to run for State Senate. Inglis defeated primary opponent Victoria Schmotzer by 38 points and went on to win the general election against Republican Stone Sobieralski by 11 percentage points.
Beyond his official roles, Inglis has been active in community service through memberships in the West Mifflin Community Foundation, West Mifflin Lions Club, and West Mifflin Borough Recreation Board. He also spent 17 years mentoring youth through the human resources team at Kennywood Park.
