John Haste is a Republican state senator representing District 36 in the Oklahoma Senate, based in Broken Arrow. Born in Arkansas and raised in west Tennessee, he now resides in Broken Arrow with his wife Jennifer, son Nate, daughter-in-law Camille, and grand-puppy Ella. Previously a senior vice president in the home furnishings industry, he has extensive business and management experience. Haste was sworn in as senator in November 2018 after resigning as chair of the Oklahoma State University Medical Authority and Trust, where he had served as vice chair and chair since a 2010 pro tempore appointment. Notable achievements include appointment as Appropriations Vice Chair in November 2024; past roles as chair of Aeronautics and Transportation and the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation, and vice chair of Health and Human Services; co-chair of the Working Group for Health and Human Services and the Concurrent Enrollment Task Force; and service on the Joint Committee on Pandemic Relief Funding, Select Committee on Business Retention Economic Development, and Opioid Commission. Nationally, he serves as Vice-Chair of the Health Standing Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures , vice chair of NCSL’s Health Innovation Task Force, on NCSL’s Budget Working Group, and on committees for the Council of State Governments Southern Office. He also serves on the executive board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Northeast Oklahoma and at First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.
