Biography

Representative John George

John George is a Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives representing District 36, which encompasses parts of Oklahoma County including Cleveland, Choctaw, Edmond, Harrah, Jones, Luther, Norman, and Oklahoma City. He was elected to this newly-created district in 2022 and sworn in on November 16, 2022.

George is a career law enforcement officer who spent 31 years with the Oklahoma City Police Department, beginning in 1991. Throughout his tenure, he worked as a detective investigating sex crimes and homicides, served as a patrol officer, worked in narcotics, and was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force and U.S. Marshals assignments. He retired from the police department in January 2022.

From 2012 onward, George served as *president of the Oklahoma City Fraternal Order of Police *, a position to which he was repeatedly elected by his peers. He currently serves as the Oklahoma FOP National Trustee, representing more than 6,000 police officers across Oklahoma on the National FOP Board of Trustees.

George is married to Audrea, who is also an Oklahoma City police officer. Together, they have two daughters.

Education and Political Experience

George earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.

Prior to his law enforcement career, he served five years in the Oklahoma National Guard, achieving the rank of second lieutenant.

In the Oklahoma House, George serves as Chair of the Wildlife Committee and holds positions on the Energy and Natural Resources Oversight Committee and Rules Committee. He has championed legislation addressing violent crime, including championing House Bill 3264, which would classify domestic violence by strangulation as a violent crime requiring offenders to serve 85% of their prison sentence before being eligible for parole consideration.
