John Fitzgerald was born on September 26, 1990, in Lansing, Michigan. He is married to Kellie and resides in Wyoming, Michigan. Fitzgerald's commitment to public service was inspired by his family—his grandmothers were both educators and community leaders, and his mother has served as a pastor in Grand Rapids and across Michigan.

In 2014, Fitzgerald and his wife moved to West Michigan, where they built their lives. He began his public service career in 2020 when he was elected to the Wyoming City Council, serving as a Member At-Large until 2022. He was subsequently elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, currently serving his second term.

As a legislator, Fitzgerald operates with a "listen first" mentality, prioritizing constituent experiences to develop policy addressing everyday issues impacting West Michigan residents. His legislative focus includes supporting community services, public safety, economic growth, job development, education, reproductive and general health care, gun reform, and economic opportunity for all residents.

Education

Fitzgerald graduated from Grand Ledge High School with his diploma in 2009. He attended Wayne State University from 2009 to 2011 and Lansing Community College in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Michigan State University in 2013.

Political Experience

Fitzgerald's political career includes service on the Wyoming City Council and his current role as a Michigan State Representative for the 83rd House District. He serves on several House committees, including Government Operations and Insurance. He has also been active in community organizations, serving as a board member and past board chair of Ele's Place West Michigan, a board member of Ele's Place Michigan, and a board member of the Clark Community Foundation.
