John Duarte is a Republican who represented California's 13th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, covering parts of the Central Valley between Modesto and Fresno. A fourth-generation farmer and businessman of Portuguese ancestry, he was born on September 9, 1966, in Modesto, California, where he still lives on an almond farm with his wife Alexandra. They have raised four children and together co-founded Duarte Nursery in 1989, growing it into a business with over 1,000 employees serving nearly 3,000 agricultural customers annually.

Education and Political Experience

• Political Experience: Won election to Congress in 2022 by a narrow 564-vote margin against a Democrat in a district with a 14% Democratic registration advantage, one of the closest and last-decided races nationally. Served on the House committees for Transportation and Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Agriculture, applying expertise in water management, farming practices, transportation, and related issues. Notable positions include advocating for Valley water supply protection, American oil production, property rights, Second Amendment rights, and reducing taxes on farmers; led efforts against selling local water to San Francisco.
