Biography

John R. Curtis, born on May 10, 1960, in Ogden, Utah, is a Republican politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Utah since January 3, 2025. He succeeded Senator Mitt Romney. Prior to his Senate tenure, Curtis represented Utah's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2025 and served as the 44th Mayor of Provo from 2010 to 2017.

Curtis is known for his moderate Republican stance and has been a vocal advocate for market-based environmental solutions. In 2021, he founded the Conservative Climate Caucus to engage Republicans in climate discussions. His legislative achievements include passing approximately 20 bills, focusing on public land management, combating human trafficking, and reducing regulatory burdens on small businesses.

He has been married to his wife, Sue, for 42 years, and together they have six children and 17 grandchildren. Their family motto, "In Unity There is Strength," reflects his approach to public service.
