Biography
John Carmichael is a Democratic representative for Kansas House District 92, which includes Riverside and parts of northwest Wichita. A lifelong Wichitan, he was first elected in 2013 to complete the unexpired term of Representative Nile Dillmore and has served continuously since. He is a retired attorney with over 30 years of practice in Wichita, married to Cheryl since 2000, and has received public service awards, including from the Veterans Administration.
Notable achievements include chairing the Kansas Human Rights Commission, the Kansas Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training under Governors Sebelius, Parkinson, and Brownback, and the Governor’s Committee on Kansas Libraries under Governor Finney; he also established Sedgwick County's "voter protection" poll monitoring program in 2006 and expanded it statewide for the Kansas Democratic Party, serving as Fourth District chair and state party secretary.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Wichita State University and the University of Kansas ; taught as an adjunct faculty member at WSU.
- Political Experience: Lifelong Democrat dedicated to party building; served on civic boards and committees; current Kansas House Representative for District 92 .
