Senator John Burzichelli

John J. Burzichelli is a lifelong resident of New Jersey and a Democratic state senator representing Legislative District 3. He grew up in Paulsboro, Gloucester County, where he currently resides. Beyond his political career, Burzichelli is the managing partner of Hill Studio & Scenic in Paulsboro, a company providing studio services and special effects to the motion picture, video, and still photography industries.

Burzichelli is actively involved in his community as one of the founding members of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Paulsboro and a Past President of the Greater Paulsboro Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as a member of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Executive Board and was appointed by Governor Christie in 2010 as a permanent member of the former New Jersey Red Tape Review Commission.

Political Experience

Burzichelli was elected to the State Senate in November 2023. Prior to his senate election, he had an extensive career in the State Assembly, representing the 3rd District for 20 years from 2002 to 2022.

During his time in the Assembly, he held several leadership positions, including Deputy Speaker from 2006 to 2021 and Assistant Majority Leader from 2004 to 2005. He chaired the Joint Budget Oversight Committee and Appropriations Committee, and served as Vice-Chair of the Budget Committee.

As a legislator, Burzichelli has focused on tax reform and economic development. He led efforts to eliminate the estate tax, reduce income taxes on retirees and veterans, and played a key role in delivering significant small business tax cuts. He was instrumental in developing the Paulsboro Marine Port and Lower Alloways Creek Wind Logistic Port, initiatives that brought jobs to the region.

Before his legislative career, Burzichelli served as Mayor of Paulsboro from 1996 to 2011, demonstrating a long commitment to public service at the local level.
