Biography
John P. Burke is a Democrat representing District 9 in the Rhode Island State Senate, serving since his election in November 2020. Born on July 31, 1960, he is a lifelong resident of West Warwick with one daughter, Billie Burke, and a dog named Marley. He serves as Deputy Senate Majority Leader, Chair of the Senate Committee on Labor & Gaming, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies, and is a member of the Senate Committees on Judiciary and Housing & Municipal Government. Notable achievements include sponsoring legislation signed into law by Gov. Dan McKee to outlaw child marriages in Rhode Island, advocating for children, seniors, small businesses, and taxpayers, requesting a review of the Kent County Water Authority over ratepayer concerns, and cosponsoring bills to strengthen reporting on suspected financial exploitation of seniors.
