Bryant has an extensive record of public service spanning 23 years in elected office. He served nine years in the Texas House of Representatives and fourteen years in the U.S. House of Representatives before returning to private business, law, and civic activities.

During his legislative career, Bryant received significant recognition, being named twice by Texas Monthly as one of the "Ten Best Legislators in Texas." He successfully prosecuted the impeachment of a corrupt federal judge before the U.S. Senate and authored the East Texas Wilderness Bill, which established Texas's only federally protected wilderness area.

In the current legislative session, Bryant serves on two House committees: Pensions, Investments & Financial Services, and Public Education.
