Biography

John Arthur is a Democratic member of the Utah House of Representatives representing District 41, which includes Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, most of Cottonwood Heights, and portions of Holladay, Midvale, and Murray. He began his legislative service on December 9, 2025, after being selected as the Democratic nominee by delegates of House District 41. Arthur replaced Gay Lynn Bennion in the position.

A highly decorated educator, Arthur is the 2021 Utah Teacher of the Year and a National Teacher of the Year finalist. He is a National Board Certified Teacher and has spent his career advocating for teachers, public workers, and everyday Utahns. In the Legislature, he focuses on advancing policies that support Utah's students and educators, improve public education, address the Great Salt Lake crisis, make life more affordable for Utah families, and promote environmental stewardship.

Arthur is married to Stacey and has two daughters, Ione and Valentine.

Education and Professional Background

Arthur is in his 11th year of teaching and previously taught sixth grade at Meadowlark Elementary in Salt Lake City. He is an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Education at Westminster University and serves as the Director of Candidate Recruitment for the Utah National Board Coalition and Co-Director of the Teacher Fellows, a nonprofit dedicated to developing the next generation of Utah teacher leaders.
