Biography
Joey Hood is a Republican member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 35 from Ackerman, Mississippi. Born on December 11, 1976, in Amory, Mississippi, he is married to Cynthia and has two children, Jonah and Owen. A Presbyterian and practicing attorney, Hood has served in the House since 2012 and currently chairs the Medicaid Committee while serving on several others, including Appropriations, Conservation and Water Resources, Drug Policy, Energy, Judiciary A, and Judiciary En Banc.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: BA in Political Science/History from Mississippi State University ; JD from Mississippi College School of Law .
- Early Career: Worked for U.S. Senator Trent Lott in Washington, D.C.; served as law clerk for Judge David Chandler on the Mississippi Court of Appeals; attended French Camp Academy.
- Political Experience: Elected to Mississippi House District 35 in 2011 ; won Republican primary unopposed by Democrats in general election; re-elected including in 2023. Former roles include chair of Choctaw County Republican Party and coach for French Camp Academy High School Mock Trial Team.
- Notable Positions and Achievements: Chair, Medicaid Committee; active in community service as a board member for Simpson Volunteer Fire Department and Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce; member of Mississippi Bar Association, National Rifle Association, and United Republican Fund.
