Representative Joey Andrews

Joey Andrews IV was born on February 22, 1988, in St. Joseph, Michigan, where he was raised and continues to reside. He is a fourth-generation small business owner and licensed attorney who represents the 38th House District, which encompasses Southwest Michigan lakeshore communities. He is married and has focused his career on addressing the unique challenges facing his region, including water issues, shoreline erosion, and workforce development.

Education

Andrews attended Lake Michigan Catholic High School in St. Joseph, graduating in 2006. He earned dual Bachelor's degrees in History and Music from Carson-Newman University in Tennessee, graduating in 2010. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University School of Law in Detroit in 2013 and passed the Michigan bar exam in 2014.

Political Experience

Andrews was first elected to the Michigan House in 2022 and was re-elected in 2024 with 53% of the general vote. He is currently serving his second term.

Before his election, Andrews worked as a field organizer and policy analyst for the Michigan AFL-CIO and served as the West Michigan regional field director for the organization. He previously ran the Southwest Michigan region for the Michigan One Campaign, which supported President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Gary Peters in 2020.

As State Representative, Andrews serves on the Energy, Communications and Technology, and Transportation and Infrastructure committees. He has championed labor rights, reproductive healthcare access, and environmental protection. Notable achievements include leading efforts to repeal Right to Work laws, supporting expansions of the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act to advance civil rights protections, and securing funding for shoreline erosion studies and projects. He has also focused on addressing the short-term rental crisis and advocating for fair wages and economic opportunity for working families in his district.
