Biography
Joe Vogel is a Democratic delegate representing District 17 in Montgomery County, Maryland. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on January 4, 1997, he is the youngest member of the Maryland General Assembly at 27 years old and the first openly gay man elected to the Maryland legislature. Elected in November 2022 and serving since January 2023, he is vice-chair of the Maryland Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus and a member of the Jewish and Latino caucuses. Notable achievements include founding Learn It Together in 2020, advocating for youth mental health, inclusive education, and career-focused legislation like HB0837 , HB0147 , and HB0325 . In 2024, he ran as one of 16 Democratic candidates in the primary for Maryland's 6th Congressional District, aiming to become the first openly gay man to represent Maryland in Congress.
