Joe Timmons is a Democratic state representative for Washington's 42nd Legislative District , serving in Position 2 alongside Alicia Rule. He won the seat in the 2022 election by defeating Republican Dan Johnson and was sworn in on December 21, 2022. Timmons currently holds the position of Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore and serves as Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee, with additional roles on the House Education Committee and the Postsecondary Education and Workforce Committee.

Raised in a working-class household in Washington, his parents started a small mechanical contracting company from their garage when he was five, emphasizing hard work. He worked early jobs in restaurants, a car wash, cafeteria, and retail. Before entering the Legislature, Timmons had over a decade in government at local, state, and federal levels, including as Northwest Washington Regional Representative in Governor Jay Inslee’s office and Assistant Director of Government Relations at Western Washington University . He also served on boards for the City of Bellingham and Bellingham Food Bank.

Notable achievements include passing legislation supporting students and educators, enhancing emergency preparedness, improving affordability for seniors, and upgrading Whatcom County’s court system. He secured state budget funding for housing, behavioral health, and childcare in Whatcom County.
