Joe Sempolinski

Biography

Joe Sempolinski is a Republican member of the New York State Assembly representing the 148th Assembly District, which comprises Allegany and Cattaraugus counties and parts of Steuben County. He was elected on November 5, 2024, and sworn in during a ceremony in January 2025.

Sempolinski is a lifelong resident of the Southern Tier and describes himself as a constitutional conservative dedicated to defending the principles of the nation's and state's founding documents. He prioritizes constitutional rights, particularly the First and Second Amendments, and focuses on reducing government spending, fostering business partnerships, and promoting job creation across sectors including agriculture. He advocates for common-sense energy policy and emphasizes public safety and support for law enforcement.

Education

Sempolinski earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and later completed both a Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy degree from Yale University.

Political Experience

Prior to his election to the Assembly, Sempolinski served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York's 23rd Congressional District. During his congressional tenure, he served on the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor. He also served as chief of staff to Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio and held the position of district director for former U.S. Representative Tom Reed. Additionally, he worked as Director of Development at Archbishop Walsh Academy in Olean.

In the Assembly, Sempolinski was named Ranking Member of the Assembly Mental Health Committee and serves on the Assembly Education, Environmental Conservation, Higher Education, Labor, and People with Disabilities committees.

Sempolinski resides with his wife, Angie, and their daughters, Joselyn and Madelyn.
