Biography

Representative Joe Schomacker

Joseph "Joe" Roy Schomacker was born on March 25, 1986, and is a lifelong resident of Rock County. He is a member of the Republican Party of Minnesota and has served in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2011. Schomacker represents District 21A in the southwestern corner of Minnesota, which encompasses the cities of Luverne and Pipestone and parts of Cottonwood, Lincoln, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, and Rock Counties.

Education

Schomacker earned a B.A. in Public Administration, Speech Communication, and Political Science from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2008. He later completed an M.P.S. in Professional Studies and Strategic Communications from George Washington University.

Political Experience

Schomacker was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2010, defeating former representative and DFL House Majority Leader Ted Winter. He has been reelected every two years since his initial election.

Throughout his tenure, Schomacker has held several significant positions:

  • Served as an assistant minority leader during the 2013-14 legislative session
  • Chaired the Aging & Long-Term Care Policy Committee in 2015-16
  • Chaired the Health & Human Services Reform Committee in 2017-18
  • Currently serves as co-chair of the Human Services Finance and Policy Committee
  • Sits on the Health Finance and Policy, Economic Development Finance and Policy, and Ways and Means Committees
