Biography
Joe Schmick is a Republican member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 9th Legislative District, which includes Asotin, Columbia, Garfield, Franklin, Lincoln, Adams, Whitman, and south Spokane counties. Born on April 7, 1958, he is a former second-generation farmer and small-business owner who has served in the House since 2007. He resides in Colfax with his wife, Kim, and has held leadership roles in agriculture organizations, including the Farm Bureau, Washington Barley Commission, and National Barley Improvement Committee. Schmick serves on the House Appropriations Committee and House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, and is the ranking member on the House Health Care and Wellness Committee, focusing on affordable health care in rural areas.
