Biography
Joe Patterson
Joe Patterson is a 43-year-old Republican serving in the California State Assembly representing District 5, which encompasses El Dorado and Placer counties. He is married with four children and resides in the Rocklin area. In his personal time, Patterson enjoys trail running and coaching his children's little league teams.
Political Experience
Patterson was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2022, winning his initial election with 62% of the vote in a safe Republican district. Before his election to the Assembly, he served on the Rocklin City Council beginning in 2016 and eventually served as mayor of Rocklin.
Prior to his elected positions, Patterson worked as a legislative staffer and as a gambling lobbyist, providing him with extensive experience in California politics and legislative processes.
Current Positions and Advocacy
Patterson serves on several standing committees including the Budget Committee, Health Committee, and Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee. He holds leadership roles as Vice Chair of both the Housing and Community Development Committee and the Utilities and Energy Committee.
Beyond committee work, Patterson is involved in select committees addressing critical issues including biotechnology and medical technology, California's mental health crisis, domestic violence, and downtown recovery.
Patterson has been a vocal advocate for harsher penalties for domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. During the current legislative session, he has initiated 42 bills, with 3 passed and 12 failed, while 27 remain pending.
