Biography

Joe Lombardo is a Republican serving as the 31st Governor of Nevada, elected statewide in November 2022 and sworn into office in January 2023. Born in 1962 in Sapporo, Japan, to a U.S. Air Force family, he grew up across the world before settling in Las Vegas when his father was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. He graduated from Rancho High School in North Las Vegas and spent over 26 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department , rising from officer to assistant sheriff, then elected Sheriff of Clark County in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, overseeing a $1.3 billion budget and 6,000 employees. Notable achievements include leading the response to the 2017 Route 91 Harvest mass shooting, the deadliest in U.S. history, handling the 2014 Bunkerville standoff, and as governor, focusing on economic diversification, education reform with school choice and accountability, public safety, housing initiatives, and cutting red tape.
