Biography
Joe Hohenstein is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 177th District in Philadelphia, which includes neighborhoods such as Bridesburg, Fishtown, Port Richmond, Northwood, Frankford, Kensington, Wissinoming, and Harrowgate. Born on June 24, 1967, he was first elected in 2018, defeating incumbent John J. Taylor, and assumed office in January 2019. Notable achievements include his work as a nationally recognized immigration attorney, where he served on the National Amicus Committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, taught at Temple University Beasley School of Law , chaired the board of Frankford Friends School, and represented Syrian families in a successful 2017 lawsuit against the Trump travel ban. In the legislature, he serves as Secretary of the Pennsylvania House Philadelphia Delegation, earned a 92% on the 2019-2020 Pennsylvania Environmental Scorecard as a member of the Climate Caucus, secured funding for Bridesburg Riverfront Park, and prioritizes fair school funding, environmental protection, drug crisis solutions, women's rights, gun violence prevention, worker protections, and fair taxation.
