Senator Joseph A. Griffo

Joseph A. "Joe" Griffo was born on January 16, 1956, and is an American politician from Rome, New York. A member of the Republican and Conservative parties, Griffo has built a career in public service spanning local and state government positions.

Political Experience

Griffo's political career includes significant service at multiple levels of government:

  • Mayor of Rome, New York – Served in this local leadership role before advancing to county-level office
  • Oneida County Executive – Held this position prior to his election to the state senate
  • New York State Senator – Elected in 2006 to represent the 47th district, serving from 2007 to 2022. Since 2023, he has represented the 53rd district, which includes parts of Chenango, Oneida, Madison, and Herkimer counties

Currently, Griffo serves as Assistant Minority Leader of the New York State Senate, a leadership position reflecting his standing within the Republican caucus.
