Biography

Joe Campbell is a Republican representing District 171 in the Georgia House of Representatives, covering Decatur and Mitchell counties as well as a portion of Grady County. Born Joseph Melton Campbell on October 6, 1952, he is a native of Southwest Georgia, raised in Camilla, and has lived there nearly his entire life. A lifelong conservative, he emphasizes common values connecting citizens across his district and has deep roots in agriculture, having grown up on his family's farm.

Education and Political Experience

Joe graduated from Mitchell County High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Georgia. He spent 40 years in the peanut industry, retiring in 2016 as vice president of procurement at Golden Peanut and Tree Nut Company, where he built networks connecting farmers nationwide. He has served on boards including the American Peanut Shellers, Georgia Crop Improvement Association, and National Peanut Buying Point Association.

First elected to the Georgia House in 2020, Campbell serves as Vice Chairman of the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and Rural Development Committees, and Secretary of the State Planning & Community Affairs Committee. He also sits on the Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Natural Resources & Environment, Special Rules, and Transportation committees.
