Biography
Joseph N. Bellino Jr. is a Republican state senator representing Michigan's 16th District, which includes parts of Monroe, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties. Born on June 10, 1958, in Monroe, he is a lifelong resident of Monroe County, married to Peggy Bellino, with three daughters and six or seven grandchildren. A businessman, he owned and operated Broadway Market for nearly 23 years , previously worked in the family business Bellino’s Quality Beverage , at Society of St. Vincent de Paul , and at Joe Lake Tire and Auto . He is Catholic, a member of Knights of Columbus, Monroe Exchange Club, Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, NRA, National Federation of Independent Businesses, and served as chair of the Midwest Independent Retailers Association. Notable achievements include being named the most conservative member of the Michigan Senate in 2025 and serving as Associate President Pro Tempore.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Associate of Science degree from Monroe County Community College.
- Political Experience: Served on the Monroe County Community College Board of Trustees for 15-16 years . Elected to Michigan House of Representatives for District 17 in 2016 , reelected in 2018 , and served three terms as chair of the House Energy Committee and on Regulatory Reform, Agriculture, Local Government, and Rules and Competitiveness committees. Elected to Michigan Senate District 16 in 2022 , serving on committees including Energy and Environment, Regulatory Affairs, Transportation and Infrastructure, Energy Policy, Insurance, Natural Resources, and Regulatory Reform.
