Biography
Joe Baldacci is a Democratic state senator representing District 9 in the Maine State Senate, covering Bangor and Hermon in Penobscot County. Born on February 21, 1965, in Bangor, he is a lifelong resident, attorney with 28 years of practice serving families and small businesses, and former Bangor City Council member who served 12 years—including twice as Mayor and Council Chair. Notable achievements include saving the Bangor City Nursing Home from closure, establishing the Fire Department's ambulance and paramedic unit, and negotiating a key agreement with Halifax to protect Bangor International Airport's preclearance business. He currently chairs the Senate committees on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and State and Local Government, and serves on Health Coverage, Insurance, and Financial Services.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a B.A. in political science with distinction from the University of Maine in 1987; J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 1991. Co-founded the Maine Association for Public Interest Law during law school, which provides scholarships for public interest legal work.
