Biography
Joanne J. Ferrary is a Democratic member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 37 since her election in 2016 and assuming office in 2017. Born in Ohio and raised in New Mexico, she has lived in Las Cruces for over 32 years, raising two children as a single mother. Prior to politics, she served in the United States Air Force, owned a small business, and worked from 1990 to 1996 as planning director of the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Bureau. She also served on the Las Cruces Planning and Zoning Commission and has been active in community service, including work with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Coalition for Pets and People, and the NM Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Education and Political Experience
Ferrary earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Mexico . In the legislature, she currently serves as Chair of the Consumer and Public Affairs Committee and as a member of the Health & Human Services Committee. Notable positions include advocacy for environmental sustainability , expanding healthcare access, women's rights, public education investment, and public safety initiatives like reducing DWI crashes and underage drinking. She is now retired from prior occupations.
