Biography
Jim Tomes
Jim Tomes is a Republican state senator representing Indiana Senate District 49, which includes all of Posey County and portions of Gibson and Vanderburgh counties in Southwest Indiana. He has served in the Indiana State Senate since his election in 2010.
Born on July 31, 1948, Tomes spent 33 years working in the trucking industry as a teamster and union steward before retiring. He is a member and former commander of Wadesville VFW Post 6576, reflecting his military background. Tomes is also one of the founders of the 2nd Amendment Patriots gun rights grassroots organization, which he has directed since its inception in January 1999, and he serves as a National Rifle Association Board of Directors member. He is a parishioner of St. Wendel Catholic Church, where he serves as a Eucharistic Minister, and is a member of the Knights of St. John.
Tomes resides in Wadesville with his wife, Margie. They have three children and four grandchildren.
Education
Tomes is a graduate of Mater Dei High School and holds an associate degree from Ivy Tech Community College. Additionally, he served in the United States Army for three years, including one year in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division.
Political Experience
In the Indiana State Senate, Tomes holds several prominent committee positions:

He also serves as a member of the University of Southern Indiana Board of Advisors for the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Tomes prioritizes constituent engagement, making it a priority to take every call and respond to all messages, emails, and letters he receives.
