Biography

Jim Smallwood is a Republican Colorado State Senator representing Senate District 2 in Douglas County, including communities such as Castle Rock, Parker, The Pinery, Stonegate, and Grand View Estates. Born in 1971 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he is a business consultant and former insurance brokerage owner specializing in employee benefits. He started his first business at age 23, moved to Parker, Colorado, in 1996 with his wife Jodi and their three sons, and has been active in the community. Prior to entering politics, he served on the Colorado Advisory Council for Persons with Disabilities and various councils for insurers and trade associations. Smallwood champions affordable health care, fiscal responsibility, and transparency in government spending. Notable achievements include defeating Democratic opponents decisively in elections , chairing the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, and serving on the Senate Business, Labor, and Technology Committee .

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned a B.B.A. in Finance from Fort Hays State University, where he met his wife Jodi.
  • Political Experience: First elected to the Colorado State Senate in 2016 for District 4 ; no prior public office. Re-elected in 2020 for District 4 before transitioning to District 2.
