Biography
Senator Jim Petty
Jim Petty is an American politician serving in the Arkansas State Senate representing District 29, which includes Crawford County and parts of Washington County. A Republican, Senator Petty was elected to the Senate in 2022 and sworn in on the opening day of the 94th General Assembly.
Senator Petty is a *small business owner and Certified Public Accountant *. He serves on the executive leadership team of a multi-state real estate firm and has been actively involved with the American Institute of CPAs, serving on several of its boards and committees. Additionally, he serves on the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas Affordable Housing Advisory Board.
Before his election to the state senate, Petty was a member of the Van Buren City Council. He has also been an active volunteer with the Boys and Girls Clubs since college, for which he received multiple state and national awards.
Senator Petty resides in Van Buren with his wife, Janet, with whom he has been married for more than 35 years. They have two adult children and one granddaughter. He is an avid runner and has completed several marathons.

During the 94th General Assembly, Senator Petty sponsored legislation addressing election integrity and DNA sample retention for individuals arrested for felonies.
