Biography
James Vernon "Jim" Mooney Jr. is a Republican representing Florida House District 120, which encompasses Monroe County and part of Miami-Dade County, including areas like Islamorada, Key Largo, and Homestead. A lifelong Florida Keys resident born in Miami, Mooney has served as a schoolteacher, coach, small business owner, mayor of Islamorada Village, and city council member. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2020 and reelected subsequently, with terms extending through 2028. Notable achievements include leading Islamorada's response to Hurricane Irma in 2017 as mayor, supporting Governor DeSantis' efforts to keep Florida open during the pandemic, passing conservative balanced budgets, championing water quality legislation, fighting illegal immigration, cutting taxes, and backing law enforcement. He has received recognition from the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida TaxWatch, and an A+ rating from Americans for Prosperity.
