Biography

Jim Jordan is a Republican representative for Ohio's 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving since 2007. Born on February 17, 1964, in Troy, Ohio, and raised in Champaign County, he is recognized as one of Congress's most conservative members, a key ally of former President Donald Trump, and a founder and first chairman of the House Freedom Caucus in 2015. Notable achievements include his leadership as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, service on the House Oversight Committee, introducing a balanced budget alternative in 2009, and awards such as National Legislator of the Year, Freedom Fighter Award, and Thomas Jefferson Award. He ran for House Speaker in 2023 and won reelection in 2024.

Education

Jordan graduated from Graham High School in 1982 as a four-time state wrestling champion with a 150-1 record. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986, where he was a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion and three-time All-American. He later received a Master's degree in Education from Ohio State University and a law degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Political Experience

Jordan entered politics in 1994, serving three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives for the 85th district, where he helped amend welfare reform legislation. Elected to the Ohio Senate in 2000 and reelected in 2004, he earned accolades like Watchdog of the Treasury and Outstanding Legislator. In 2006, he won Ohio's 4th congressional district seat after Rep. Mike Oxley's retirement, securing over 60% of the vote and maintaining strong margins in reelections. In Congress, he chaired the House Republican Study Committee in the 112th Congress and has led efforts against tax increases, government spending, and waste.
