Biography
Senator James W. Holzapfel
James William "Jim" Holzapfel was born on October 9, 1944, and was raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. He is a Republican who represents the 10th Legislative District in the New Jersey State Senate. He resides in Toms River with his wife Joyce.
Holzapfel is a practicing attorney and serves as Senior Managing Partner of Citta, Holzapfel, Zabarsky, Attorneys at Law, in Toms River. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the New Jersey Supreme Court, and the Florida Supreme Court.
Education
Holzapfel graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1962. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-Law from Monmouth College in 1966 and a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1969.
Political Experience
Holzapfel began his public service career as Ocean County Prosecutor from 1987 to 1992. He was first elected to the New Jersey Legislature in 1994 as an Assemblyman for the 10th Legislative District, where he held several leadership roles:
- Assistant Majority Whip
- Deputy Republican Leader
- Chairman of the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee
- Chairman of the Joint Committee on Ethical Standards
- Chairman of the Governor's Study Commission on Parole
In November 2011, Holzapfel was elected to the New Jersey State Senate and was sworn in on January 10, 2012. He serves on the Senate Committee on State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation. He has also participated in the Law Enforcement Study Commission, the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Municipal Courts, the National District Attorneys Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
