Biography
Jim Himes is a Democratic U.S. Representative for Connecticut's 4th Congressional District, which covers most of the southwest corner of the state, including parts of Fairfield and New Haven Counties and cities like Bridgeport, Norwalk, Fairfield, and Stamford. Born on July 5, 1966, in Lima, Peru, to American parents, he has served since 2009, currently in his ninth term. Notable achievements include securing over $70 million for Merritt Parkway improvements, $11 million for Bridgeport's Steel Point project generating thousands of jobs, and $30 million for Metro-North's Danbury Branch upgrades. He serves as Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and a member of the House Financial Services Committee, with prior roles like Chair of the Subcommittee on National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy.
Education
Himes graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School, earned a BA in Social Studies from Harvard University , and received a Rhodes Scholarship to attend Oxford University, where he studied Latin American studies, including research in El Salvador.
Political Experience
Before Congress, Himes worked as Vice President at Goldman Sachs and led the New York City branch of Enterprise Community Partners , financing thousands of affordable housing units with green technologies. In Greenwich, Connecticut, he chaired the Housing Authority, leading reforms; served on the elected finance board setting tax and budget policy; and chaired the Democratic Town Committee . He has also been involved with boards like Aspira of Connecticut, Fairfield County Community Foundation, and Family Assets, Inc., focusing on education, housing, and community development.
