Biography

Jim Haadsma is a Democratic politician who represented Michigan's 44th House District in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2019 to 2024. A native of Muskegon who has lived in Battle Creek since 1994, he is a longtime attorney specializing in workers' compensation, labor relations, and Social Security disability law, admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1984. Notable achievements include chairing the House Labor Committee, chairing the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, and serving on the Health Policy Committee; he also supported constituents during the pandemic with unemployment aid and federal programs. Previously, he served four terms on the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners and held leadership roles in community organizations like the Kiwanis Club , Art Center of Battle Creek, Southern Michigan Urban League, Battle Creek NAACP , and boards for Haven homeless shelter and Salvation Army.
