Biography

Jim Dunnigan

James A. Dunnigan is a Republican state representative from Utah representing District 36 in Salt Lake County. Born in Salt Lake City, he currently resides in Taylorsville, Utah, where he is a member of the LDS Church.

Dunnigan began his public service career at the local level, serving on the Taylorsville-Bennion Community Council from 1991 to 1996. He played a key role in helping organize Taylorsville's incorporation as a city and served on its inaugural City Council from 1996 to 2002. He is also the Chair of the Taylorsville Dayzz Festival and operates Dunnigan Insurance as a small business owner and insurance broker.

Education

Dunnigan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Utah, which he earned in 1976.

Political Experience

Dunnigan began his state legislative service on January 1, 2003, and has established a lengthy career in the Utah House of Representatives. His legislative history includes:

Dunnigan has been recognized for his work with numerous awards, including 2020 Business Champion by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Utah Small Business Champion of the Year by the National Federation of Independent Business, and Top 30 Business-Friendly Legislator by the Utah Business Coalition. He is known for his advocacy against tax increases and his legislation eliminating predatory lending practices in Utah.
