Biography

Jim Baird is a Republican U.S. Representative for Indiana's 4th Congressional District, which spans 16 counties in West Central Indiana. Born on June 4, 1945, he is a lifelong Indiana resident, decorated Vietnam War veteran who lost his left arm in combat, earning a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts, and a farmer/small business owner with a career marked by public service and fiscal responsibility.

Education

Baird graduated from Purdue University with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in animal science. He later earned a Ph.D. in monogastric nutrition from the University of Kentucky.

Political Experience

Baird began in local government as a Putnam County Commissioner , focusing on infrastructure and efficient services. He served eight years in the Indiana House of Representatives , contributing to budget balancing on the Ways and Means Committee and addressing agriculture, rural development, veterans, and ethics issues. Elected to Congress in 2018, he serves on the House Committees on Agriculture , Foreign Affairs, and Science, Space, and Technology.
