Biography

Jim Abeler is a Republican Minnesota State Senator representing District 35 in the northern Twin Cities metropolitan area, including Anoka, Coon Rapids, and Andover in Anoka County. Born May 18, 1954, he is a lifelong Minnesota resident, chiropractor, and founder of the PACT Charter School in 1994. Married to Barb for over 38 years, he has six sons, three daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren. Notable achievements include preventing the closure of Anoka Technical College, securing infrastructure improvements like additional lanes on Highway 10 and funding for the Anoka Dam and Hwy 610/East River Road, advocating for veterans, police, firefighters, families with disabilities, and seniors, and serving as Republican lead on the Human Services Committee. He currently serves on committees including Health and Human Services, Education Policy, Housing and Homelessness Prevention, and Human Services.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated as valedictorian from Anoka High School ; studied biology and chemistry at Hamline University and the University of Minnesota; graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic . Opened a family chiropractic practice in Anoka that same year.

    • Minnesota House of Representatives: Elected 1998; served District 49A , District 48B , District 35A ; chaired Health Policy and Finance Subcommittee .
