Biography
Jessica Ramos is a Democrat and Working Families Party member representing New York's 13th State Senate District, which includes Queens neighborhoods such as Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and parts of Astoria, Elmhurst, and Woodside. Born in Elmhurst to Colombian immigrant parents—an undocumented seamstress and a printing pressman—she was raised in Astoria, attended Queens public schools, and now lives in Jackson Heights with her two sons. A lifelong advocate for working families and labor rights, she chairs the Senate Committee on Labor, where she has championed historic legislation granting farm workers basic rights, addressing child poverty, and securing $2.1 billion for a fund aiding workers excluded from pandemic relief. Notable achievements include her work as a union advocate with organizations like Build Up NYC, SSEU Local 371, and 32BJ SEIU to secure better contracts for construction, building, hotel maintenance, office cleaning, and public school cleaning workers.
Education and Political Experience

- As a teenager, elected President of the NYC Colombian Liberal Youth Council and President of the NYC Colombian Liberal Party , advocating against poverty and internal displacement in Colombia.
