Jerry Walker

Jerry Walker is a Democratic member of the New Jersey General Assembly representing District 31, a position he has held since 2026. A lifelong resident of Jersey City, Walker's career in public service has been shaped by his commitment to equity, public safety, economic opportunity, and community empowerment. Before entering the Legislature, he served eight years as a Hudson County Commissioner, including a tenure as Vice Chair of the Hudson County Board of County Commissioners, where he chaired the Family Services Committee and served as liaison to the Hudson County Planning Board.

Walker is the co-founder and CEO of Team Walker, Inc., a nonprofit youth learning center throughout Hudson County that provides STEM, academic, and recreational programming for children and families. The organization also operates a free farmers market and offers free GED and ESL classes to community members. He is recognized as a lifelong advocate for education and transportation, with a strong commitment to holding NJ Transit accountable and improving reliable, affordable public transportation.

Education

Walker is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where he starred as an athlete. He began his basketball career at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, where he later served as a board member. He spent nine years playing professional basketball in Europe before transitioning to community service. Walker currently serves as a life skills coach.

Political Experience

As a Hudson County Commissioner, Walker became a leading voice on public safety and youth development. He played a key role in securing and directing funding toward violence prevention initiatives, gang intervention programs, and partnerships with community-based organizations focused on outreach, mentorship, and conflict resolution. He was also instrumental in advancing infrastructure and quality-of-life improvements, supporting investments in county facilities, parks, and public spaces, particularly in historically overlooked neighborhoods.

In the Assembly, Walker focuses on policies that strengthen public safety, support working families, expand economic opportunity, invest in youth, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunity across all communities.
