Biography

Jerry Nadler is a Democratic U.S. Representative for New York's 12th Congressional District, which covers both the west and east sides of Manhattan from 14th Street to 110th Street. Born on June 13, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, to a chicken farmer, he resides on Manhattan's Upper West Side with his wife, Joyce Miller, and son, Michael. Notable achievements include serving as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee from 2019 to 2023, leading Trump's first impeachment as author of articles and House manager, spearheading the second impeachment post-January 6, securing $20 billion in 9/11 recovery aid as the "Ground Zero Congressman," authoring New York State laws on child support and domestic violence, and advocating for mass transit funding, women's rights, LGBT equality, and pregnant workers' fairness.

Education

Nadler graduated from Crown Heights Yeshiva and Stuyvesant High School in 1965. He earned a B.A. in Government from Columbia University in 1969 and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1978 while attending evening classes.

Political Experience

Nadler began public service as a New York State Assemblyman , representing the Upper West Side and shaping laws on child support enforcement, domestic abuse, housing, transportation, and consumer protection. He entered Congress in 1992, initially representing districts 17, 8, and 10 before the 12th District since 2023. He serves on the House Judiciary Committee and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, including subcommittees on Highways and Transit, and Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement. Unsuccessful campaigns include Manhattan Borough President and New York City Comptroller .
