Biography
Jerome Amos Jr. is a Democratic member of the Iowa House of Representatives, representing District 62 since January 2023. This district covers parts of northeast Black Hawk County, including much of northeastern Waterloo. A former machinist at John Deere and active UAW union member, he transitioned into politics after a union training session encouraged local involvement. He previously served seven years on the Waterloo City Council, representing Ward 4, after managing Mayor Quentin Hart's campaign. Amos won his House seat unopposed in 2022 with over 96% of the vote following redistricting and incumbent Ras Smith's retirement; he filed for reelection in 2024, winning the primary unopposed and running unopposed in the general. He currently serves on the Appropriations, Labor and Workforce, Local Government, Public Safety, and Veterans Affairs committees, advocating as a voice for the labor movement.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of East High School in Waterloo; attended one year at Upper Iowa University. Currently an adjunct instructor at Hawkeye Community College.
