Biography
Jeremy Scott McPike represents Virginia's 29th Senate District, which includes parts of Prince William County. Born on September 19, 1975, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Prince William County, he has served in the Virginia State Senate since 2016. He is married to Sharon L. McPike, with whom he resides in Dale City along with their children, and is a Catholic affiliated with Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A longtime public servant, McPike is a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, where he holds the rank of Assistant Chief and Life Membership. Notable achievements include championing gun safety legislation, such as authoring laws to eliminate online concealed carry permit courses, preventing gun violence in public places, and supporting universal background checks and a statewide extreme risk law. He previously served as Democratic Caucus Vice Chair - Policy and chairs the Local Government Committee while serving on committees like Commerce and Labor, General Laws and Technology, Rehabilitation and Social Services, Transportation, and Rules, plus various commissions including the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission and the Virginia Board of Workforce Development.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. in Government and M.P.A. from George Mason University.
- Professional Experience: Worked as a construction laborer and superintendent early in his career; for the past 22 years with the City of Alexandria, currently as Director of General Services, overseeing public building projects to ensure they are on time and on budget.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Virginia Senate in a 2015 off-year special election, defeating a popular mayor by emphasizing gun safety laws; reelected as incumbent for Senate District 29 .
